Data Breach FAQs

June 4, 2025

On May 30, 2025, we learned that an unknown threat actor obtained a copy of our encrypted Canvas platform database without authorization. While no sensitive personal information was involved, out of an abundance of caution and transparency, we are providing you with the following answers and guidance.

1. Was I personally affected?

Yes. Your email address and hashed Canvas password (from the time of the backup) were included in a password-protected backup file that was downloaded without authorization. While we cannot confirm whether this data was accessed, we are treating this with an abundance of caution.

Out of an abundance of caution, if you're currently enrolled in a Ziplines course, we recommend that you reset your Canvas password immediately. If you’ve used the same password on other websites or services, we strongly recommend updating those passwords as well.

2. What exactly was exposed?

The exposed data was limited to:

  • Your name and email address
  • Your encrypted Canvas password (passwords were protected and would require significant effort to access)
  • Basic course progress information, such as whether you had completed an assignment.

This information is considered low-sensitivity, but we still take the exposure very seriously.

3. Do I need to worry about identity theft?

No. This breach did not involve any personally identifiable information that could lead to identity theft.
Specifically, the following were not part of the backup file:

  • Social Security Numbers
  • Government-issued IDs
  • Dates of birth
  • Physical addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Financial or credit card information

This was strictly limited to educational platform log-in credentials and minimal course activity data.

4. I can’t remember my Canvas password — what do I do?

No problem. You can reset your password by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Ziplines Canvas login page: learn.ziplines.com
  2. Click “Forgot Password?”
  3. Enter your email and follow the instructions sent to your inbox

If you need additional help, please contact us at support@ziplines.com.

5. What is Ziplines Education and why do you have my data?

Ziplines Education partners with universities to deliver career-focused, certificate courses designed to equip professionals with in-demand skills for today’s workforce.

If you participated in one of these programs through your university, your Canvas login and progress data were securely stored on our learning platform as part of that learning experience.

While the data in our Canvas database does not include sensitive personal details, your digital safety is important to us. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact datasecurity@ziplines.com

6. What actions do you recommend?

Even though the exposed data does not include sensitive personal details, we believe in being transparent and proactive when it comes to your digital safety. Although we don’t believe any passwords have been decrypted, we recommend changing your password on other sites if your Canvas password was used — just to be safe.

7. Will this affect my academic standing or course progress?

Not at all. You can continue as normal and all of your progress markers, assignments and other course-related information will remain intact and available to you.

We recommend you change your Canvas password, just to be safe.
